Ladies — you got this

I’m often a fan of over-achievers who work behind the scenes.

These people are the ones who actually make things happen — but they largely go un-recognized.

In the last few weeks, I’ve met a string of people like this — each one has caused global change to happen which helped millions of people but they aren’t getting any press. Hello TechCrunch??

Interestingly all these people are women.

Every.Single.One.

I read their resumes and think “Sheryl, Marissa, and Meg couldn’t have done this any better”.

Here’s the icing — they all come from under-represented minorities and only one has a “name” school on her resume.

The humility of these women just blows my mind. None of them quite grok the magnitude of their accomplishments. When I’ve mentioned it they say “but I had a great team helping me”.

Women — working behind the scenes to make things happen is a super power which most men just don’t have (especially in the tech industry).

Your ability to assemble teams, see the big picture and execute cohesive action is amazing. You really need to recognize your strengths. Please!!

At UpLevel Works, our CEO is an amazing woman. She consistently shows courage, curiosity, and a vulnerability that men don’t typically touch.

Oh — and she wants to change the world. She’s had enough different successes and failures that I 100% believe we can.

She’s always telling me that the mortar is just as important as the bricks. Maybe even more so. The two are complimentary and both vital to a strong foundation. The challenge is recognizing the importance of both components because we tend to focus on the obvious. Bricks without mortar are rubble.

She also says that people by habit focus on what they think is missing: the negatives rather than the positives. What they need to do is recognize their super powers and learn to use them to their advantage.

I bet there are a ton of women out there like our CEO who have the skills to change the world.

If we are lucky, we will get to meet a lot more of them.

Thank you!
