Struggle - a mental wellness story

I struggle every day.

I do this by choice.

I do this because it’s what works. I do this because struggle is needed for success

I grew up reading and learning about people who overcame obstacles.

Chris Gardner, Marie Curie, Booker T Washington, Pocahontas, King Kamehameha, and Kit Carter.

I learned in these stories that a worthy life meant finding and challenging obstacles. Using struggle as a tool to succeed.

A worthy life is one where we challenge and overcome and achieve - struggle is the only way to that achievement.

Every successful person in the world has struggled and still struggles.

They do not avoid or disown or say “I can’t because..” - they lean into the toil.

MJ, Oprah, Ronny Lot, Janice Bryant Howroyd, Will Smith, and Jada Pinkett - amazing strugglers every one.

Also Steve Jobs, Madame C.J. Walker, and Kenneth Chenault - all struggled.

People who accept the struggle and then figure out how to enjoy it - have amazing lives and global contribution.

Struggle looks different for everyone and it evolves over time.

I used to struggle to write - now it’s easy.

Today I struggle with creating and editing video, turning data into compelling stories, and prioritizing tasks. It’s also a struggle to translate skills that I take for granted into inspiring stories that attract the curious.

I still struggle sometimes talking with strangers - while some of my friends just make it seem trivial.

I’m struggling - care to join me?
